How to Add a Point to the Human Toll of Climate Change Map

1) Open box. From the map, click the “Add a Point” box below the key. A box will open with a series of text boxes with the categories discussed below (title, description, reference, etc.)

2) Title. The title should be filled in with the affected area, followed by a colon, followed by the projected consequence (e.g., “Australia: Heat Waves”).

3) Description. Give a short description on projected consequences, keeping in mind that this map is focused on human consequences.

4) Reference. Enter the study you are referencing and include a hyperlink if it is available on the web. Hyperlinks are added using HTML.

Use the following as an HTML template:

<a href=”URL THAT YOUR ARE ENTERING”>TEXT THAT YOU ARE ENTERING</a>

For example, entering in…

<a href=”http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/reports/billionz.html#chron”> NCDC, Billion Dollar Disasters, 2007</a>

…results in NCDC, Billion Dollar Disasters, 2007

If the study you are referencing is not available online, simply enter in the text of the citation without the URL.

5) Longitude/Latitude. Either enter the exact location coordinates or click “show marker.” After clicking “show marker,” drag the marker to its appropriate location.

6) Category. Pick the appropriate category for your point from the pull-down menu.

7) Add a point!
