Very interesting. We've been thinking of developing something similar to monitor genetic erosion in crops and their wild relatives (http://agro.biodiver.se/2009/06/the-human-toll-of-climate-change-mapped/) -- though not just in a climate change context, as there are other threats to crop diversity. Would there be any chance of adding a category to that effect to your map?

The clearest evidence of the need to prepare was provided by New Orleans and Galveston. We were totally unprepared for Katrina and we saw a lot of politics, then came the storm that hit Texas, the home state of our President and we saw a lot less, or did we?
In Katrina, we had the Coliseum with all its tragedy in Galveston, the "Ownership Society", described by Candidate Obama, came into its own and decreed: "You are on your own." They were ordered to leave Galveston, but were not give a shelter to go. In a real sense it was worse, but they avoided the Photo Ops!
A victory of advertising and spin, over reality and the worst part, they offered no excuses, this time.
In terms of civility, Galveston marks an step backward.
-------
Some writers able to note social aspects determined that the storm in Galveston in 1903 and the San Francisco quake of 1906, brought out a huge response from a nation that had been divided since the Civil War. The misery, the response and the rescue efforts were so widely shared that they noted that many others shared their grief and their wish to help strangers, most from other nations but fellow Americans.

To be fair, shouldn't you include any positive effects of climate change on the map?

For example, won't the drier summer conditions in the North and Midwest DECREASE the number of disease-carrying mosquitoes and ticks there?

I'm not claiming that the positives will outweigh the negatives, I just think it's misleading not to even hint that there may be some positive effects for some people in some places due to climate change.
